For this week’s student spotlight, I got the chance to interview Georgia Cox, a junior at McCaskey who is currently making history alongside all of the seniors of 2020. Georgia and her mom have been going out, door to door, to all of the senior class members to take pictures of them. In her own words she, “wants to document history and give a gift also to the seniors.”
Q: Why did you create this project for the seniors?
A: I felt bad for the seniors. You only get to be a senior once and make your highschool memories once. So by doing this project this is something personal that I wanted to give as their memory.
Q: Did you think this project was going to blow up?
A: At first no, but I was shocked and happy that everyone could sign up.
MOM: Originally, we both discussed how we can represent all of 2020 Mccaskey kids. So we tried with some of the seniors both Georgia and I knew. I think with Jason Brown’s (senior 2020) “I was supposed to” sign gave the momentum of the project to keep going.
Q: How did WGAL and ABC27 get involved in this project?
A: My mom knew someone personally from WGAL, so we decided to message them about the project. However a different reporter had sent us a message about the project due to all the shares we have gotten on Facebook and from there we had them follow us around to do the pictures.
Q: How do you feel missing out on Junior year? This is a big moment for you as well since around this time you’re taking your First last picture for the year book as a senior.
A: I’m not fully concerned. I know it can always be made up in the summer or in the beginning of the year.
Q: What’s a message you can give to us as seniors?
A: Honestly, keep your head up and lean on each other. No one thought this would be your peak. The community, Teachers, Parents, Everyone is here to support you all. Everyone is allowed to be sad now but there is light at the tunnel.
Q: As for this project, will you continue to do it or make any new projects? What’s your next plan for this Senior project?
A: I know this project will have to come to an end sometime, but as for making a new project is TDB. I’m doing one step at a time. After we are done with our 2020 Senior project, I plan to develop it into an Imovie so all of our seniors can see it, then post an event with SDOL and raise the awareness for us.
Georgia, I personally want to say thank you to you and your mom. What you are doing for the Class of 2020 is amazing, inspirational, and heartwarming. I know it’s never easy to see your friends sad about something so horrible, especially when it is due to something completely out of our control. You are a brave soul and thank you once again.
