This school year has been… different, to say the least.
I’ve learned so much about myself in such a short amount of time that I really cannot say the same about any other school year when reflecting on it.
The global pandemic has not only taught me not to take things for granted, but many things that happened in my life throughout this school year which have really changed my perspective. as well as being able to focus on my other passions like the arts.
This school year has also really solidified my opinions on the grading system and confirmed that my worth isn’t based on grades. The year has been rough for all students, and the fact that schools still expect normal levels of productivity in a global pandemic really shows how much administrators really care about students: very little.
As for my personal development, I’ve definitely learned how to express myself better, especially in terms of my sexuality and gender. Writing and being a staff member of the McCaskey Vidette was also a huge learning experience for me. The class really opened my eyes to how school should be as a whole, and everyone in the staff made me feel so comfortable and able to freely express myself., It’s offered me a feeling of liberation in a year which couldn’t feel more constrained.
