Morgan Wallen: A Rising Star

Morgan Wallen is an American country singer and songwriter on the way to becoming something big.  His music has managed to relate to many peoples’ lives on a personal level and he has grown quite a fan base over the past few years. He has released many albums whose songs have quickly gone to the top, and have made it on the country billboard.

His most recent album, “Dangerous: The Double Album”, was released in 2021, with many new fresh songs that climbed to the top in no time. What Wallen has started to do with some of these songs is take them and put them into a new “studio sessions” collection. In these sessions, he has been taking some of his songs from this Dangerous: The Double Album, and putting little twists on them, doing things like bringing out different instruments that may have been included before, but were not heard as well. I think this gives the music an updated, fresh new feeling.

Some of the songs that are on the Dangerous: The Double Album are “Somebody’s Problem”, “Dangerous”, “Wasted on you”, “livin’ the dream”, “Quittn’ time”, and many more favorites. You can play any of his songs and I will more than likely know it and really enjoy it, as I am quite a fan of his music and the messages that he puts out in his music.

Wallen has this look- the true image of a country boy. The perfect mullet. The plaid shirts, blue jeans and the boots. It makes him fit that description. It’s definitely a goal of mine to get to see him sometime in concert. He is currently on tour with many show dates around the country, including two that are located in Pennsylvania. If you are interested in going to one of his concerts, look into getting tickets fast because they are going to sell out most likely immediately.

His music tells stories: stories that he lived through and stories that people can relate to and feel a connection to. And because of this, I think that it has helped him grow such a fanbase. One of the songs that he has taken to these dangerous sessions is his song 865. The song talks about this phone number that has an area code of 865 which is the area code for Knoxville, Tennessee. He talks about how when he hears the number, it brings back memories of a special place and time and it makes him think of his hometown.

In the beginning of the song, Wallen starts it off a little slower and there is a second guitar that is included. He also has a different tone in his voice than the original version of the song. The main melody sounds around the same, but there seems to be a new background voice. I wouldn’t say the music is more acoustic, but there are more of the instruments brought out in the studio version and they are brought out in a slower more mellow way. There are definitely some new background voices. In the slower parts, after the main section, it gets slower and more drawn out. There is a little more reputation for the words than I remember from the original version.

One of Morgan Wallen’s other songs, called “Rednecks, Red Letters, Red Dirt” is a favorite of mine and definitely a well known song. This song has also been taken to his studio sessions. There are different types of instruments brought out than what you can hear in the original version and it is more on the acoustic side. But when the main vocal part kicks in, it still has that bite in the music that gets you hooked and makes the music up beat. There is also at least one background voice that gets brought out in this version more than the original. I think that the different instruments and voices that get brought out in these studio sessions, gives the songs a good new taste and makes them feel like they are something different and new but that they also have their original roots and you can still hear the original song in there.

I think that people should listen to some of his music, whether they are country music fans or not. I think that some of his songs can bring up things about our own lives that we may not realize or think about all the time, and I think that they can give us a different perspective on some things. So maybe the next time you’re looking for a song to listen to and you’re open to trying something new, give one of his songs a try and see what you think about it. Maybe you will really enjoy it, maybe you won’t. But you will never know until you try.
