The FS100 program is a freshman college course at HACC that teaches you about life skills you may need to be successful in school and life. The program is a real eye-opener that takes you through subjects such as how to control finances to deep discoveries about your own learning habits.
I enlisted into the program by attending Ms.Walls CA class. From there, we learned the skills that were needed for the FS100 course. To be able to participate, you needed an A or B average, as this class is covered by the school’s finances. The class itself officially starts in February and is continued out till May.
At first, I thought the class would be relatively hard since it was a college class. I have never taken college classes before so this was a bit of an overwhelming experience at first, but then once I settled then I realized that the FS 100 program has a lot of tools to offer to make students feel more comfortable and to make the navigational process easier. The school has its own website similar to Schoology, so with that I was able to navigate around pretty easily since everything is labeled and categorized neatly.
The class itself is more hands-on then I expected it to be. A lot of it was public speaking and working in groups. It gets you in the mindset of a future work setting, and prepares you to collaborate in a variety of situations.
The program really gave me insight into this world of financial issues and overcoming adversity. Another great add on is the class hours and flexibility, as my classes were Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 to 9:15. Having morning classes made it so I could focus my attention on other classes the rest of the day. It’s a good balance between the work of high school and college.
Overall, the class itself is really helpful and a great experience to go through. It also helps to get a few college credits out of the way so you won’t have to worry about it later.
