McCaskey Study Spots: Lancaster Public Library

To study peacefully, most students prefer a quiet spot with no distractions. Such places can prove to be difficult to find in a bustling and growing city such as Lancaster. However, one perfectly quiet study spot still remains: the Lancaster Public Library.

As its name suggests, The Lancaster Public Library is a public library open to the public 6 days a week, excluding Sundays. It is located in downtown Lancaster on North Queen Street, in between a parking lot and many restaurants.

The library is an ideal studying spot as they even offer private study rooms. These rooms tend to be on the smaller side, only being able to hold up to two people at a time, but it does contain two tables and two chairs, perfect for a buddy study session. Although these study rooms do come with a fee, $25 an hour.

Not only does the Lancaster Public Library have quiet spaces for studying, they also have thousands of books which can be a key tool in students study sessions. The Public Library contains all sorts of books. From Calculus textbooks to Shakespeare’s plays, they have it all. The Public Library also has audiobooks, e-books, magazines, and online databases which can be used for homework and research papers. For students who need anything offered by the library for their studying, they can borrow said items and use them in the library for free, or they can take them home on their own by obtaining their own free library card.

McCaskey senior Cal Clapper shared that he goes to the library to study. He shared, “The Public Library downtown has helped me study a lot. I’m taking multiple IB (International Baccalaureate) and AP (Advanced Placement) classes, so being able to have a quiet location which has many resources to study is extremely beneficial for me.” Junior Dialennys Batista, another student in the IB Program shared, “The Public Library is nice for studying, they have multiple resources which help all the time.”

Another McCaskey student, sophomore Brylyn Nicholas shared her experience at the library. She said, “I’ve used the Public Library’s study rooms with my friends before. It helped us a lot as we were working on a project together and it was just a perfect quiet environment where we could focus on our work.”

The Lancaster Public Library is a perfect spot for students to study in a quiet peaceful environment. It not only has quiet study rooms, but it also has multiple resources, including databases as well as books and magazines.
